What is HTP?

HTP is me, and me is HTP. What is either one?

HTP is Hindrances to Progress, the first video game company ever to come out of Delran, NJ. Mind you, that depends on your definition of “video game company”. If, to you, a video game company is a company that just makes games, then yeah, Hindrances is a video game company. It makes them.

If, however, you think a company needs to actually release a game for, you know, money? Well, that’s another story. I won’t begrudge you your realistic take on the issue. Money is kind of the key here, isn’t it?

You can see how much I deserved that A- in ECON101.

Me is Ray. Ray Merkler, specifically. Raymond Louis Merkler Jr., if you really want to split that hair. I’m a software engineer who still clings to his dreams even as his 30th birthday looms. My ambition is sound where my judgment may not be. We’ll see how this game dev thing goes.

I (Ray) like to be as transparent as possible about what I’m working on. If you follow this blog, you’re going to be treated to all the dirt and grime that comes with someone’s first big attempt at game development. Let’s see what happens when the world can watch the development of a game, by someone who’s never published one before, from the earliest showable version right through to the release. Should be a fun experiment.

If you want more, you’re welcome to check out my (Ray’s) blog and Twitter feed, but be warned, I’m a big ol’ swear face.
